Modernization begins with evidence about the installed system. Drawings, programs and physical equipment are reconciled because each may describe a different revision. Interfaces to remote I/O, drives, safety, HMI, historians, databases and third-party machines are documented before replacement options are compared.
The preferred architecture is selected against production risk, maintainability, lifecycle support and the available outage—not only hardware availability. A phased plan can preserve selected field devices or interfaces while creating deliberate points for testing and rollback. Budget estimates identify assumptions so later discovery does not appear as unexplained scope growth.
